Many surface crusts are made of a material known as lunar regolith. Lunar regolith transforms into translucent forms through a process called agglutination when the regolith is subjected to high heat. In many places, parts of the moon's surface consist of translucent material embedded in the moon's outer crust. These surfaces allow a substantial degree of sunlight to penetrate into the caves. Most of this glass like surface material has been naturally formed, millions of years ago. Amongst the translucent surface areas, there are also many areas of near clear-glass transparency. Due to refraction of the sunlight that penetrates into the caves, massive rainbow like color beams frequently appear in very many places inside the caves. Due to the vastness and the complexity of the spectrum of rainbow colors intermingling with each other, there is a stunningly beautiful visual effect inside the caves. The glow from the moon's outer surface when seen from inside the caves, gives a further dimension of beauty for the visual enjoyment of the people of the moon.

Pluto has a tenuous atmosphere composed of nitrogen, methane, and extremely toxic carbon monoxide, which probably originates from the ice on its frigid surface. As Pluto wanders in its orbit ever closer and closer to our Sun, it becomes increasingly warmer and warmer. The ice on its strange surface evaporates as a result, and the gases flow into interplanetary space. This continues until Pluto starts to travel away from the Sun again, becoming increasingly colder and colder as it does so. Pluto's bizarre atmosphere again freezes, and then floats down to its very alien surface as snow--but it will evaporate again when Pluto begins its long journey back towards our Sun. It takes 248 years for the frozen dwarf planet to complete a single orbit around our Sun.
Astronomers suspected for a very long time that Triton was not born a moon of Neptune, but was instead a luckless refugee from elsewhere that had been kidnapped by its planet. It was not until 2006, however, that a convincing theory explaining how Triton was ensnared by its adoptive parent was proposed. This theory suggests that Triton once had a companion as it orbited the Sun. According to this scenario, Neptune's strong gravitational embrace tugged Triton away from its sister world. This research was reported in the May 11, 2006 issue of the journal Nature.

Saturn is the smaller of the two gas-giant planets dwelling in the outer regions of our Solar System, far from the friendly light and warmth of our incandescent golden Star, the Sun. The larger of the two gas-giants is Jupiter, which is also the largest planet in our Solar System. Some scientists think that the two gas giants do not have solid surfaces hidden beneath their immense and heavy gaseous envelopes, although others think that they probably do contain relatively small cores of rocky-icy material. The two other large denizens of the outer limits of our Sun's family are Uranus and Neptune, which are classified as ice-giants, because they have large icy cores buried beneath their heavy atmospheres which, though massive, are not nearly as heavy as the gaseous atmospheres borne by the two gas-giants.
